We would checkmate cattle rustling, animal theft – IGP Idris

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Tuesday said the Police Force would ensure that cattle rustling and animal theft are checkmated.

Idris said this at a stakeholders’ meeting on the curtailment of cattle rustling in Nigeria held at the Force headquarters, Abuja.

Idris said the stop on illegal movement of animals will lead to drastic reduction in animal theft in various parts of the country.

He described cattle rustling as “a national menace leading to the destruction of lives and properties in various parts of Nigeria.”

However, Idris was silent on the spate of killings by suspected herdsmen in different parts of the country.

He said, “The Nigeria Police Force will, at all time, collaborate with different stakeholders to checkmate the issues of cattle rustling and animal theft at all levels of movement of cattle and herdsmen.”
