WAEC introduces electronic marking, retains teachers

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday said it has introduced electronic marking for scoring its theory questions.

This was revealed by the Head of Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Olutise Adenipekun while briefing journalists in Lagos.

Adenipekun said the electronic marker will be used to mark the ongoing November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

He said the e-marker will ensure a better and more reliable marking system, stating that teachers will still be needed to coordinate the process.

Adenipekun also said candidates will no longer go home with their theory question papers.

“We are providing service and the people we are providing service for are youths of the country and youths naturally are restless. So, they also want to see new things. If you assess well today, you will build the nation because the youths of today will find themselves in several positions of leadership in the future,” he said.
