Daily Mail reports that the Russian billionaire told Chelsea players that he’d been reluctant to sack Mourinho, but the performances of late, made the dismissal inevitable.

After Chelsea were beaten for the ninth time this season in the Barclays Premier League by Leicester City, Abramovich’s patience wore out, he informed the players.

He also read the players a riot act, saying they should see Mourinho’s exit as a fresh start and they should begin to improve as a team.

Saturday’s match with Sunderland is expected to be led by Steve Holland and Eddie Newton, while Guus Hiddink has arrived London, to possibly take over on an interim basisi, as he did in 2009.

Hididnk says he’s open to taking over but he would need to ascertain what went wrong between a talented squad and a great manager.

“I want as much information as possible. Chelsea are in a bad situation and there are reasons for that. I want to gain some good insights on that before I make my decision.”

“Whether or not I’m visiting their next match depends on my first conversation. Then I’ll decide if I should stay in London longer,” Hiddink told De Telegraaf.
