Chinonso Writes: How to achieve a quiet revolution

….you put in so much efforts trying to improve your business, relationship, career, or personal life but you just can’t see any physical improvement as a result of those arduous efforts. Consequently, you begin to doubt or lose your hunger for the change you seek and then, eventually, you abandon it.

Between 1960 and 1966, Québec, a province of Canada, created an unprecedented revolution for the entire world to see and learn from. This revolution was far-reaching, radically redefining and reshaping the political, economic, social, religious, educational, and cultural landscape of the province. It was a unique revolution popularly regarded as Quiet Revolution, a name coined by a certain Toronto journalist, because of its peculiar, unconventional approach.

Revolutions, when they take place, like you and I know, are usually mixed with growing hostilities, tensions, protests, standoffs, hoopla, kidnappings, and, most times, killings. But the kind that took place in Québec, the Quiet Revolution, was way different. Apart from bringing about the positive change needed, it happened quietly and without any form of violence. To put it melodramatically, this revolution hummed, not shouted, the tunes that ushered in positive transformation in Québec!

Québec’s experience recently taught me something germane about change that I’ll like to share with you. Here is it. In life, sometimes your change result could be so quiet or subtle that you begin to cast doubt on whether there is actually a change taking place. For example, you put in so much efforts trying to improve your business, relationship, career, or personal life but you just can’t see any physical improvement as a result of those arduous efforts. Consequently, you begin to doubt or lose your hunger for the change you seek and then, eventually, you abandon it. It’s just unfortunate that this scenario keeps playing out in the lives of so many. But it needn’t be so.

If you’re committed to real change, then you need to understand and maximize what I call your silence period. This is the foundational period, when there is actually a change taking place, but because it’s hidden beneath the surface of your view, your eyes just can’t see it yet. This is the within period, when your internal change workings is silently being aligned towards the critical mass of physical manifestation. Therefore at this point, it would be wrong or untimely for you to abort your commitment towards that change desire. Rather stay committed to your change efforts and, in a matter of time, just like Québec’s Quiet Revolution, the difference will begin to sprout for you and others to see.
