Confusion as unemployed man kills wife by pushing her in pit latrine

by Isi Esene

A murder suspect, Surajudeen Alaraba was recently paraded at the Ogun State Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for pushing his wife into a pit latrine after an argument.

The news came as a little strange since the couple were described by neighbours as friendly and gentle.

The incident reportedly happened in the Agbado area of Ado-Odo Ota  Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Alaraba, 46, was said to have been unemployed and relied solely on his wife, Rauda, a petty trader, for sustenance. This fact makes the crime even more bizarre leading to speculation from neighbours that Alaraba might have acted under the influence of unknown forces.

Ogun State commissioner of police, Ikemefuna Okoye,  while parading Alaraba and other suspected criminals, narrated that the suspect committed the crime  at about 7:20pm penultimate Sunday.

Okoye said, “The Agbado Division had a distress call that a man had  pushed his wife into a deep pit and we quickly rushed to the scene where the victim was met dead in the pit.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended and we are still interrogating him, he will be charged to court as soon as we are done with our investigations”.
