Court grants former Adamawa Governor, Ngilari N100m bail

A High Court sitting in Yola, the Adamawa state capital has granted a N100 million naira bail to a former governor of the state, Bala Ngilari.

Mr Ngilari was on Wednesday remanded in custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the order of the court.

Justice Nathan Musa granted Ngilari bail in the sum of N100 million with a surety who must have a landed property in Yola metropolis.

Justice Musa also granted bail to Ngilari’s Commissioner for Finance, Sanda Lamurde in the sum of N50 million with a surety, who must also possess a landed property in Yola.

However, ruling on the bail application filed by the third accused Ibrahim Welye, who was the Secretary to the State Government will be delivered on Friday.

While delivering his ruling Justice Musa said the prosecution had not provided concrete evidence as to why the former governor and ex-commissioner should be denied bail.

The EFCC charged Ngilari and the two others for violation of procurement laws in the award of a contract worth 167 million Naira to one El-Yadi Motors Limited for supply of 25 units of operational vehicles (Toyota Corolla).

The accused have denied the allegations.
