Court orders arrest of ex-Enugu governor over alleged fraud

Former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani has been served a bench arrest warrant for failing to appear before the court.

Background:

  • Nnamani had in 2007 faced charges of alleged economic crime and money-laundering, amounting to N5 billion.
  • Mohammed Yinusa, a justice of the Federal High Court had confiscated four companies and assets belonging to Nnamani.
  • Nnamani’s re-arraignment was set for December 4, after EFCC’s lawyer wrote a request for adjournment.

What is happening:

Chuka Obiozor, a justice of the Lagos Federal High Court, issued the arrest warrant against Nnamani on Monday, which was set for his re-arraignment.

Obiozor said Nnamani’s counsel did not present concrete explanation on his client’s absence from court.
