Court releases Atiku’s son after hours in custody

A Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos has released Aminu, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, hours after he was remanded.

The judge had earlier ruled that Aminu should be remanded in a cell for disobeying an order of the court.

The court had asked him to produce his son who he allegedly took away after divorcing his wife, Fatimo Bolori.

When the matter came up on Wednesday, Aminu’s lawyer informed the magistrate that the parties were making plans to settle the matter out of court.

But Ethel Okoh, counsel to the estranged wife, denied knowledge of any out of court settlement.

Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye directed that the son of the top politician be detained pending the production of his six-year-old son.

The court has however released him after the boy was produced while Fatimo was granted custody of the minor for 10 days.
