Deposition of Edo monarch: Proof of Oshiomhole’s despotic reign – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the deposition of the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Anselm Edenojie by Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Ahmed Makarfi faction, Prince Dayo Adeyeye the party said the governor’s action was proof of his despotic reign for the past eight years.

The statement read, “We condemn the recent deposition of the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Anselm Edenojie, by the outgoing Administration of Governor Adams Oshiomole in Edo State.

“HRH Anselm Edenojie who until his deposition was the Paramount Ruler of Uromi, was ostensibly deposed for supporting Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, our candidate at the recently concluded Edo state gubernatorial election. The deposition is further evidence of the despotic reign of Adams Oshiomole as Governor of Edo State for the past 8 years.

“It is also evidence of the desire of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) to destroy all constitutional and traditional institutions, as well as the constitutional Rights and freedoms of the Nigerian people in its bid to establish a one party state.

“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers all Nigerian citizens to support, associate with and be affiliated to any political party and candidate of their choice.

“It is a well known fact that several traditional rulers demonstrated open support, and in fact campaigned for the APC candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki. This obvious bias and willingness to destroy constitutional and traditional institutions that do not display obvious support for the tyrannical and anti-people programmes and policies of APC is ripping the democratic gains of the past 16 years in shreds.

“We urge all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on Governor Adams Oshiomole to reverse this obnoxious deposition of this Monarch. We urge Nigerians to prevail on APC at various national and state levels to refrain from destroying institutions and individuals who exercise their constitutional rights and freedoms.”

Edenojie was deposed for allegedly assaulting one Ms. Betty Okoebor, during the September 28 governorship election.
