Did Lai Mohammed say N2bn was spent on ‘repair of leaky roof’ at National Theatre?

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, reportedly stated that N2 billion was appropriated for the repair of a leaky roof at the National Theatre, by an unnamed past administration.

The former All Progressives Congress spokesperson, was quoted to have made the allegation on Saturday during a courtesy visit to Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

While speaking at Soyinka’s office in Freedom Park, Lagos, Mohammed failed to state the administration which spent the N2 billion on the repair of a leaky roof.

Punch Newspapers reports that Mohammed said he couldn’t say for sure if the money was actually spent; a statement which contradicts the initial claim.

Mohammed added that the Federal Government was planning a Public-Private Partnership that would upgrade the theatre to become the pride of the nation.

He said the National Theatre would not be sold, while adding that he’s currently studying the PPP proposal to ensure that Nigerians and the federal government benefit from it.
