The former Police Pension fund accountant, John Yakubu Yusuf, who was convicted on Monday by an Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Abubakar Talba has been re-arrested, yesterday, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Yusuf, who was accused of misappropriating N23bn, was sentenced to two years in jail and given an option of N750,000 fine.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed Yusuf’s re-arrest saying the suspect is being detained by the commission and would be arraigned on fresh charges.

Wilson said the commission has prepared and filed a 4-count charge bordering on false declaration of assets. He reportedly stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court today.

Yusuf’s case was quickly disposed off due to the fact that he pleaded guilty to the crimes leveled against him but other co-accused who did not plead guilty include: Atiku Abubakar Kigo, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service; Esai Dangabar, a retired director at the Aviation Ministry; and Ahmed Wada, a former deputy director of the Police Pension Office and now director in the Federal Ministry of Sports.
