Edo guber polls: Tribunal to hear applications on Dec. 7

The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal on Thursday said it would hear all applications filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as well as the All Progressives Congress (APC) on December 7.

Ize-Iyamu is challenging the outcome of the governorship election, asking the tribunal to declare him winner of the polls.

He also listed INEC and his opponent Godwin Obaseki as respondents.

INEC had announced Obaseki as winner of the September 28 polls with 319,483 votes while Ize-Iyamu came second with 253,173 votes.

Both Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu were present at the tribunal on Thursday with the former being represented by 37 lawyers and the latter 61 lawyers.

Counsel to the APC, Niyi Akintola said the tribunal should hear a pending application before the hearing of the petition but PDP counsel, Adebayo Adelodun objected saying all applications can be headed with the petition.

The three-man panel led by Justice A. Badamasi directed that all applications will be heard on December 7.
