Enugu police commissioner removed over herdsmen attack

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Nwodibo Ekechukwu, has been removed by the Nigeria Police Force over the attack of suspected Fulani herdsmen on Ukpabi Nimbo in Enugu State.

Last week Monday, about 20 people in Ukpabi Nimbo community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state were killed while many other residents were injured during the attack.

The police spokesperson, Bisi Kolawole, confirmed on Tuesday, May 3, that Ekechukwu had been posted out of the state to another command.

“The Enugu State CP has been posted out of the state to another command and a new CP, Emmanuel Ojukwu, has taken over. The redeployment is part of strategies to improve police effectiveness across the country.”

It is believed that the commissioner was removed by the Police High Command due to the fact that the villagers had informed the state police command about the impending attack, yet nothing was done to forestall the attack.
