The German Machines, as they have come to be known, went ahead in the 8th minute when Jérôme Boateng‘s well-struck volley went in.

Mesut Özil lost a golden opportunity to improve on his goal tally when his penalty was saved by Matúš Kozáčik in the 14th minute.

Mario Gomez and Julian Draxler made up for the missed chance by each finding the net for the world champions.
