Arthur Obiora, 26, who allegedly pushed young female acquaintance from a multi-storey building due to a disagreement over sex was on Friday arraigned in Lagos.

Obiora was slammed with a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and attempt to cause bodily harm at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

Police prosecutor, ASP A.C Orji, reportedly told the court that the accused invited the young woman, Nkiruka Akabuogu, to a Clubhouse where they had fun and later moved to his house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Estate in Victoria Island, where he attempted to forcefully have sex with her.

“This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried to rape her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer.

“The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high-rise building,” Orji said.

According to the prosecutor, the incident happened on October 31, around 3am.

“The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises, who then reported it to the police.

“The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,” Orji said.

“This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until October 30,” he explained.

The magistrate, Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
