International flights to resume on 29th of August – FG, Mikel Obi joins Stoke City | 5 Things That Should Matter Today

The Federal Government has declared that international flights will resume on August 29; while introducing protocols to minimise the risk of the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, took to Twitter to announce this development on Monday.

“Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the August 29, 2020 beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience,” the tweet read.

Nigerian airports have been shut down since March 23 to all, excluding essential international flights, as part of the country’s efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.


Lagos launches pumping stations for flood control

The Lagos Government has declared that it is building pumping stations as a flood risk management strategy to lessen the incidence of flooding in the state.

Following the earlier forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) in its 2020 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) that Lagos State will experience a rainy season of 240-270 days; with more rains expected in September and October, the government has established a flood mitigation strategy.

State Commissioner for the Environment and Water resources, Tunji Bello disclosed this development at a briefing and enlightened residents on the impending pattern of rainfall, which the state will experience from September till the end of the year. He added that the state is already experimenting the use of pump stations at Ilubirin in Lagos Island, declaring that the pump stations are to ensure quick pumping out of water from flooded neighbourhoods such as Isheri North and environs.


Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi joins Stoke City

Nigerian international midfielder, John Obi Mikel has joined Stoke City as their fourth signing of the summer. He joins Morgan Fox, James Chester and Steven Fletcher in checking in at the bet365 Stadium ahead of the 2020/21 Championship season.
