Five facts to know about the premiere of AY Live's 'Another Invasion'

By Olaiya Tolufashe

On Thursday, December 15, in Lagos, comedian, TV host and entrepreneur Ayo Makun (AY) will be presenting the official premiere of the DVD ‘AY Live: Another Invasion’, which will hold at the Ekpo Muson Centre.

Can I share with you five quick facts you really should know about the one-of-a-kind event? Leggo!

One, it’s a First!

You read it right. It is the first time in Nigeria that standup comedy would be produced and professionally packaged for DVD. We have seen movies and music on DVD, and now we are giving standup comedy a prime place.  We are sorry, if by this DVD decision, we disappoint those who are used to comedy on VCDs. It’s not our fault; it’s only our turn to set some pace. People say this DVD of ours is Nigeria’s first standup comedy DVD, we say they are right.

Two, it’s Another Invasion

And that is true! The AY Live DVD is an assortment of CLEAN comedy, music, dance and drama performance by some of Nigeria’s first-rate comedians, musicians and dance groups as professionally recorded from the last AY Live concert in Lagos that sold out the impressive 6,000 capacity New Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

Space would only permit me to mention a few of the performing acts the DVD features: 2face, 9ice, Mo Hits Prince, Kas, Olamide, Kaffy, Seyi Law, Elenu, Princess, Helen Paul, and the list goes on.

The DVD is also embellished with short comedy films featuring some of Africa’s best actors, including Gollywood’s Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, Nadia Buari, and Nollywood’s Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Tonto Dike, Susan Peters, and ‘troublesome’ Aki and Paw.

Three, Date is December 15, 2011

If AY were Nigeria’s President, he would have declared Thursday, December 15, 2011 a public holiday. But he is only an award winning comedian. He can set December 15, 2011 as premiere date, and send exclusive invitations to as many as the AGIP Hall, Muson Centre would permit. Convergence time is 6pm and that is when red carpet starts. Big Brother Africa’s IK and cherubic Omoni Oboli are hosts for the night.

Now, this is for your ears only!

Limousines are already eagerly awaiting the arrival of dignitaries to ferry them to the venue of the event.

Four, Dignitaries include 7 state governors

That is: SEVEN State governors in Nigeria. Fashola of Lagos, Mimiko of Ondo, Sylva of Bayelsa, Uduaghan of Delta, Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom, Amechi of Rivers, and Okorocha of Imo. That list is in no particular order. The seven would be
honoured with Awards of Excellence by AY of Mabel (Don’t ask me who Mabel is!).

Five, I’ll keep it simple

It’s another first from AY!
