From Ajegunle to the world: Odion Ighalo talks rise to fame in CNN interview

Watford striker Odion Ighalo, made headlines during the English Premier League and an all time general recognition in the soccer for his exceptional talent.

However, life hasn’t always been rosy for young Ighalo, who grew up on the streets of Ajegunle, Lagos.

He revealed this in a recent interview with CNN, where he talked about living the ‘hardknock life’ in the rural-setup including an incident where he escaped being shot while playing football.

Ighalo said: “I could remember when we were training in the field, then some people stole and they ran across the field we were playing while they were being chased by the police, and we had to run and bend down because stray bullets can hit anybody. I was so afraid that day but this is how things are there. We cannot change it.”
