From the Bloggers: Mourning Alex Ibru, trailing Mercy Johnson, banning Rihanna in Paris & More

by Wilfred Okiche

The week began on a sad note with the passing of Alex Ibru, Publisher of the Guardian newspapers. Quite a number of blogs paid tribute to the late media mogul including People in the Limelight, Naija Entertainment and others.

May his soul rest in peace.

We are hoping another man in the spotlight does not have to pass away. Respected actor Enebeli Enebuwa finds himself in trying times as he recovers from a stroke that has left him incapacitated, reveals Linda Ikeji. He needs prayers, and her needs donations to help him recover – more information is on her blog.

There’s news about another actor – but this seems to be self-inflicted sorrow.  Prince James Uche seems to have walked out of his home, abandoning his wife and children in the process; that is according to Obehi Okoawo’s blog. Hmm.

It wasn’t all gloom and doom though: the week also threw up some sensational gist. Question Mark was right on the mark with gossip as usual, bringing us some mama drama as Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti impregnates one of his dancers, only some eight months after another dancer had a child for him (this is according to ‘dem blogs o)!

2face Idibia, who knows a thing or two about baby mama drama, was however in the news for the right reasons this time as he rescued an injured police officer, saving his life in the process. Our friends at the FAB blog have all the details.

Pop tart Rihanna’s controversial video for current Billboard Chart topper ‘We found love’ has been banned in France and Miss Petite Nigeria could not wait to share.Still on singers, Jimmy Sonde was excited by the latest Wow! Magazine issue covered by the duo of singer Mo’cheddah and model Chika Emmanuel and Beyond Gossip brought us a sneak peak of Beyonce’s new video ‘’Dance for you’’.

Across the blogosphere, it is ‘revealed’ that newly-weds Mercy Johnson and Prince Okojie might be basking in marital bliss for all we know, but the Prince is already lurking in the shadows, keeping tabs on his Princess. If you must know, that includes buying every newspaper and magazine that so much as mentions her name!

Moving on quickly…

In other news, it is the end of the year and The Smile of a Nigerian Scorpio put up a list of her favourite things of 2011 – including oddities like coupons, dispensers and a certain HTC phone. We love her already.

T’was an eventful week.
