The Nigerian army and police made contrary claims on the location of the 56 Fulani herdsmen that were last week, arrested with weapons in Abuja.
The army had announced the arrest of 56 armed Fulani herdsmen at a military checkpoint in Abuja and another 36 at a checkpoint in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Speaking on the issue, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Guards Brigade, Capt. Bashir Jajira, in a statement last week, said the suspects had been transferred to the Nasarawa State Police Command while the 56 arrested in Abuja were handed over to the Kuje Divisional Police Station, Abuja.
However, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Numan, on Monday, said the 36 suspects were handed over to the state police and that they were in court already.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command, however, claimed that it didn’t receive the arrested Fulani herdsmen from the army.
A source at the police commanded revealed to Punch Newspapers, that “no herdsmen were handed over to the police, as claimed by the Army.”
Speaking on the issue, the Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole, confirmed that the force didn’t receive the herdsmen.
She stated that: “I have made inquiries at the FCT Police Command and what I learnt was that they had yet to receive the suspects.”
