25 Generals have been given six weeks to voluntarily retire from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The generals were affected by the appointment of their juniors as service chiefs.
It is a tradition in the Army that Generals cannot serve under a junior officer to them, which means that they must mandatorily resign.
This was disclosed on Friday by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Kenneth Minimah, while handing over to his successor, Major General Tukur Buratai at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
