Gruesome: Police discover female corpses in ritualists’ hideout

by Akan Ido

Acting on a tip-off, men of the Delta state police command have uncovered an operational base of suspected ritualists discovering corpses of women.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Famous Ajieh, disclosed this recently saying four of the suspected ritualists were arrested.

The discovery was made at Okpanam Village where reports say scores of mutilated and decomposed bodies of women were found.

Sources say the introduction of tricycles, after the ban of commercial motorcycles popularly known as ‘okada’, have led to the influx of criminals who specialize in abducting unsuspecting passengers using their body parts for ritual purposes.

During the police raid, four members of the gang were reportedly arrested, including their leader, identified as Simeon (surname withheld).

Three others are said to be on the run from the law.

Residents of the area say there was a surge in the criminals’ activities during the Yuletide season in Asaba and its environs when there were several reports of missing people.

Ritual activities allegedly thrive in Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, Ubulu-Uku and Okpanam.

While warning passengers to be wary of the operators of the ‘Keke,’ Ajieh said their activities had been placed under surveillance.
