He denies us: Nigerian Olympic basketballer Al-Faruq Aminu says he’s not from Nigeria

by Adeniyi Abdul

Al-Farouq Aminu is a basketball player who was part of the Nigerian Olympic team. He used to play with the Los Angeles Clippers and is currently with the New Orleans Hornets.

What’s interesting, however, is that despite the fact he played for Nigeria at the Olympics, he doesn’t identify himself as Nigerian and has never been to the country. When asked “So are you from Nigeria?” the player replies “No, I’m originally from Atlanta Georgia, but my dad’s from Nigeria.”

He also reveals he’s never stepped foot in the country, saying, “No I haven’t been. I wanna go though” Check out the video below.

  1. Not new at all; there are thousands of such Nigerians particularly in the UK and USA. It only shows how blessed our Country is: talented people!

    1. Let him deny as many times as he wants but a DNA test will prove him wrong cos his traits n blood speaks Nigeria OR he is still angry dat he was sold during d slave trade.

  3. While it's all about where your father, and his father, … are from in Nigeria, it's good to respect the fact that it's not the same in every place or for every person. Many claim first by birthplace, which sort of makes sense. As much sense as the father's hometown concept.

Well, hope this dude visits Nigeria soon, he'll be claiming Naija all day 🙂
