by Isi Esene

Marian Onoyume, the wife of Vanguard Newspaper’s Rivers State correspondent, Jimitota Onoyume, who was abducted on Monday by gunmen has been freed.

She was released to her family on Thursday after spending 3 days in the kidnappers’ custody.

Mrs. Onoyume who is a teacher, was seized abducted earlier in the week at Eku, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State as she was driving her two daughters to school in her Nissan Quest bus.

Mr. Onoyume disclosed this in an SMS message which reads, “I announce the safe release of my darling wife, Mrs. Marian Onoyume, who was abducted on Monday.

“They said they were misinformed by their linkman about my financial capacity. They were very considerate. My wife said they were very kind-hearted. They had planned to delay the release till 8:00pm today (Thursday) because of heavy presence of security men in my community and the entire Ethiope East Local Government Area.”

The abductors reportedly demanded the sum of N10m from the Onoyume family before adjusting their ransom to N5m. It is, however not clear how her release was arranged.

We congratulate the family on her safe return.
