I spoke Sgt Johnson’s name from beginning to the end without hesitation | Trump fires back

Following fresh allegations that President Donald Trump had struggled to remember the name of Sgt David Johnson, the fallen soldier killed in Niger, during a conversation with his widow, the US leader has argued he did remember the name.

Earlier last week, Frederica Wilson, the Florida congresswoman who ignited the firestorm of criticism following her disclosure of Trump’s comments to the widow, hinted it appears the President couldn’t remember the special corps officer’s name.

Confirming Wilson’s claim and expressing her own anger, Sgt Johnson’s widow, Myeshia speaking on “Good Morning America” on Monday, said: “I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name, and that’s what hurt me the most because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country why can’t you remember his name”.

Trump however denied he couldn’t remember the fallen soldier’s name, arguing that he conversed with Myeshia with deep respect.

“I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!”, Trump tweeted shortly after Myeshia’s confession.
