Why I stayed with my husband – Mercy Aigbe reveals

by Omoleye Omoruyi

Nigerian actress, Mercy Aigbe (Gentry removed by her), in an interview with Broadway TV has given the details of the scandal with her husband.

The actress accused her husband of domestic violence, posting pictures of her battered face on social media, saying the physical abuse has affected her sight, and led to internal bleeding.

On why she came out saying her husband has never touched her, she said, “I never for once came out to say that my husband did not beat me. The video people were referring to happened in 2013 when there were rumours of such and I did a video recording alongside  my husband to debunk the claim. At that time I had to do it to protect his image and my marriage. I had to do a live video at that time”.

Mercy claimed in the interview that Lanre beats her consistently, saying she only stayed because she loved him.

“I stayed because I love him and because everytime he beats me, he begs and gets family and friends to beg me. He promised regularly to change but he never did. When my husband gets angry, he gets physical, not only to me but to anyone. He has done that with house help who reported him to the Police years ago.

“I stayed because of my children and because a lot of people look up to me. I was a role model of some sort and I really wanted to keep it together. I just wanted a home”.

The actress said her husband needs help, that’s the reason she decided to speak up, not that she wanted to walk away.

She also revealed that the last incident started a few days before she discovered that her husband had been sleeping with another woman, which led to an argument when she confronted him.

Mercy said she agrees she has been a fool for staying long even with the abuse, but only wanted to keep her home and build it.
