Fellow Nigerians, it is time that we stopped criticising the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and accept that they are Nigeria’s “only hope”. Well, that is of course if we agree with the sentiments of Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido who on Thursday defended his party and stated that they would not fail Nigerians. Lamido, who spoke during a meeting with the PDP in National Working Committee members in Abuja also took advantage of the opportunity to deliver a subtle blow to other parties in the country, describing them as “inventions by frustration” as well as “sanctuaries of political failure”.
“Some Nigerians refer to the PDP as party of thieves and fraud,” he said. “But it is still either the PDP or no other. Nigerians have confidence in us and that is why they keep voting for us.”
“Other parties draw their strength and inspiration from PDP. Other parties are mere inventions; inventions by frustration. From 1998 to date, only the PDP has been consistent. All Peoples Party has become the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Alliance for Democracy is either no longer in existence or it is moribund.
“They are sanctuaries of political failures.” he continued. “They vilify PDP every time. And yet, PDP is the only hope for Nigeria. Therefore, we must work very hard. We can’t afford to fail them.”
Fielding questions from newsmen about Honourable Farouk Lawan’s current predicament, he stated that corruption was a national problem and pointing fingers would do no good.
“The people in the National Assembly, government houses, armed forces, police, markets, universities are all drawn from the Nigerian environment.” he said. “So, when you are talking about corruption, why don’t you do some kind of reflection? Are we upright?
“It is a very serious problem. It is not an issue of Farouk or not. It is a Nigerian crisis. Are you upright? If you go to the market, people try to make money out of you. If it is oranges you want to buy, they put big ones on top and the little ones under the basket.”
You heard the man!
