Ivanka Trump set to discuss paid leave for mothers and fathers

First daughter, Ivanka Trump is set to meet Sen. Marco Rubio, Deb Fischer, and others Tuesday morning to discuss paid family leave, Politico reports.

The meeting is a buildup to the Trump administration proposal for six weeks of mandatory paid leave for mothers and fathers, an idea that is unpopular with many Republicans. Fischer re-introduced a bill to Congress this year that would give tax credits to companies that offer paid leave for employees. He also backed the idea during his 2016 Presidential campaign.

The paid leave proposal would place a mandate on businesses in the United States. The idea for the leave, which is also in Trump’s budget proposal is yet to be embraced by Republicans.

The Democrat stand is that the proposal is inadequate, though the final version depends largely on which Republican gets to carry the bill and right now, Rubio and Fischer would appear to be top contenders.
