Just In: Enyimba are League Champions for record 8th time

Enyimba Football Club of Aba has clinched the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title after a win 3-0 over Akwa United at the NPFL Championship Playoff played on Wednesday at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos.

The People’s Elephant who came into the game top of the Playoff table with nine points, opened scoring in the first half through Reuben Bala, and extended their lead on the hour mark as Stanley Dimgba converted Okorom’s cross past goalkeeper Iwu.

Abdulrahman Bashir wrapped up victory for the Aba side when he netted a superb goal from range in the latter stage of the game to hand them a record 8th League title, having secured top spot in the Playoff table with twelve points from 5 matches.

The two-time African Champions go into history as Nigeria’s most successful club having previously won the championship in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2015. Their victory also qualified them to represent the country in the 2020 CAF Champions League and would be joined by Kano Pillars while Rangers International of Enugu Rangers along with the winner of the Federation Cup are also expected to represent the country in the 2020 CAF Confederations Cup.
