Why Kano youth burned down legislators’ homes

The youths of Gaya Local Government, Kano state, who say they tired of being lied to by their elected constituency representatives went on rampage to deal with their erring politicians.

Senator Kabiru Gaya who represents Gaya Local Government at the senate and Alhaji Mahamud, their representative in the House of Representatives both had their properties burned down by angry youth.

Kabiru Gaya’s residence was burned by the youths while Mahamud’s farmhouse was razed to dust too.

The youths embarked on their arsonist campaign because they claimed the lwmakers had refused to implement the promises they made during election, which got them voted in.

One of the youths said: “youth unemployment is on the rise here, the infrastructural development exists in the past, no water, and we have these wealthy individuals from this town as Representatives. They promised during their campaign to fix these age-long problems, and barely a year on nothing convincing seems to be oozing out of their end.”
