Professor John Okoli, a University of Port Harcourt lecturer who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Monday, has regained his freedom.
According to The Punch, Okoli was free set by his abductors on Wednesday night after being held hostage for three days by his kidnappers.
Professor Okoli was kidnapped from his residence in Omuoko Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of UNIPORT, Dr. William Wodi, told our The Punch that Professor Okoli, of the Faculty of Engineering was freed on Wednesday night.
“Yes, he (Professor Okoli) has been freed. He regained his freedom Wednesday night. We are happy to see him back,” Wodi stressed.
The Police Public Relations Office of the Rivers state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed Okoli’s freedom, said no ransom was paid.
Omoni, who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday, added that the professor had reunited with his (Okoli) family.
“Professor Okoli has been released. He was released in the night on Wednesday and no ransom was paid,” the state police spokesman stressed.
