Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle? Donald Trump’s possible replacement for Sean Spicer as press secretary

President Donald Trump shared this tweet days ago, in defense of the White House Press Office after Press Secretary, Sean Spicer gave out contradictory information on the reasons for the dismissal of FBI Director, James Comey.

Frankly, Sean Spicer has been struggling to keep up these days and over the weekend, speculations that he may lose his job were rife. In circumstances similar to those that surrounded Comey’s firing, President Trump granted a Fox News interview where he was quizzed on Spicer’s fate behind the White House’s podium. When asked if Spicer will be press secretary tomorrow, Trump said, “Well, he’s doing a good job but he gets up“. Interviewer, Jeanine Pirro repeated the question and the response the second time was, “Well, he’s been there from the beginning“. Classic Trump! He didn’t quite answer the question.

In the tweet that followed the one above, Trump said, “Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future “press briefings” and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???” Cancelling all future press briefings as suggested by the president plus reports that he was not particularly impressed with how Spicer handled Comey’s firing may mean the end for Spicer’s job, or not.

The media got itself busy trying to figure out what Trump’s next line of action may be until PAUSE…

*insert Kimberly Guilfoyle

The Fox News host who sort of provides an answer to the many questions on curious minds,”Who will take Spicer’s job?” etc.

On Tuesday, Kimberly Guilfoyle in an interview with Bay Area News revealed that she’s in talks with the White House for the press secretary role. She said, “I’m a patriot and it would be an honour to serve the country. I think it’d be a fascinating job. It’s a challenging job, and you need someone really determined and focused, a great communicator in there with deep knowledge to be able to handle that position.”

Great speech but why does she suddenly have the whole place shaken up and why is she a possible threat for Sean Spicer?

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a co-host on Fox News’ primetime talk show, The Five was considered for the press secretary position even before the inauguration, it is reported that she was recommended by White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon. Although Sean Spicer was chosen over her at the time, Guilfoyle has been a Trump loyalist on The Five show. She is known to always throw her weight behind the president and his policies and agrees that the media has been less than fair in Trump reportage. It’s not news that Trump’s favoured channel is Fox News so there’s no way Guilfoyle would have gone unnoticed by the president.

But the relationship between President Trump and Guilfoyle dates back more than a decade. 48-year-old Guilfoyle attested to this when she said, “I think I have a very good relationship with the president. I think I enjoy a very straightforward and authentic, very genuine relationship, one that’s built on trust and integrity, and I think that’s imperative for success in that position.

President Trump himself has provided a more solid basis for Guilfoyle’s assertive approach. Sometime last week, the New York Times reported that Trump discussed her with allies as a possible successor for Spicer.

Kimberly Guilfoyle is the former first lady of San Francisco. Until 2006, she was married to the city’s former mayor Gavin Newsom and also worked as a prosecutor in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Before her interview with Bay Area News became public, Guilfoyle reportedly gave Spicer advice on how to do his job. She said on air, “If you want to be successful and do communications with President Trump, you have to be someone who he actually wants to spend a little bit of time with. You’ve got to insist on getting in front of POTUS, talk to him, and have like five, six minutes with him before you go out there and take the podium, and otherwise you’re driving blind“.

She sure is giving Spicer more than a run for his money!
