After 40 days, Bayelsa Speaker heeds Appeal Court ruling

Kombowei Benson, Speaker of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly has finally stepped down from his position.

The April 2015 election of the Speaker was on December 9, nullified by the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

After failing to heed the court’s ruling for 40 days, Benson on Tuesday, vacated his seat as a member of the House.

The Speaker was sacked in a case filed by Ebifaghe Orunimighe, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the House of Assembly seat in Southern Ijaw Constituency 4.

The APC candidate had challenged the victory of Kombowei on the grounds that election did not take place in four wards and that in the areas where election took place, there were cases of over-voting.
