Lagos Task Force shuts 29 illegal medicine stores

The Lagos State Task Force on Fake, Counterfeit and Unwholesome Processed Foods has sealed 29 illegal patent medicine stores in the state.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Modele Osunkiyesi.

Osunkiyesi said the latest closure came after the government’s renewed mandate to rid the state of illegal patent medicine and pharmaceutical stores’ operators, in accordance with the provision of Chapter C34 of the Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provision) Act of 1999, Number 25.

According to Vanguard, Osunkeye added that the sealing of the outlets became necessary as a result of the persistent defiance of government’s regulation on drug production, importation, manufacture, sales or display for sales, hawking, distribution, adulteration, and possession of drugs by illegal operators.
