[The Legislative Blog]: This Bayelsa lawmaker’s project will bring tears to your eyes

You will be moved to tears for more than a few things but we’ll allow you figure them out as you look at the photos.

The sheer joy that permeates the atmosphere and is expressed by these women despite the apparent mindfuck is what amazes us.

Kate Owoko, a member of the Bayelsa House of Assembly donated a floating toilet made from corrugated iron sheets to members of the constituency she represents.

It was touted as a “project” and it mattered so much to Owoko she invited the press to cover the “launch event”.

When the photos surfaced online on Monday, it immediately generated negative attention and the reason is right in our faces. Public office holders in Nigeria are a letdown and this one is yet an abominable level of low.

Following the backlash, she has defended the donation as a pressing need for the women of the community. Her response on Facebook partly reads, “they were in grave needs for such toilets to answer to the call of nature”. We’re done!
