The Life House brings 4th edition of Lights, Camera, Africa!!! Film Festival

by Isi Esene

The fourth edition of The Life House’s Lights, Camera, Africa!!! Film Festival will run from Friday, September 26 to Nigeria’s Independence Day, October 1 celebrating the nation’s 54th anniversary in a venue steeped in history, the Federal Palace Hotel.

On Oct. 1, 1960, British dignitaries and Nigeria’s first Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa signed the Declaration of Independence in the boardroom of Victoria Island’s Federal Palace Hotel. The establishment, then state-owned, also treated top civil servants and other guests to a selection of canapés and bubbly, some still remember, while the streets brimmed with euphoria.

More than half a century later, we are proud to partner with Federal Palace Hotel to host our guests on us on its historic grounds to screen more than 30 movies from 15 countries curated around the theme ‘LEGACY’.

Film Festival programme

Building on its own architectural legacy, the hotel has grown significantly over the years in size and elegance. A modern Casino was opened in December 2009, a new banquet hall and its pool club were unveiled in 2010.

The hotel’s latest addition, its marquee, will be the main venue of the festival and of its side activities, such as its free film talks, riveting panel discussions, a colorful souk of African crafts and gifts items, live music, and a bevy of thrilling performances.
