Maiden edition of SDG Media Zone Africa ends with key recommendations on SDG implementation in Africa

On 24th of June 2019, TOG teamed up with The Good Fathers Foundation to host the maiden edition of the SDG MEDIA ZONE AFRICA. The event held at Oriental Hotel Lagos state and had in attendance, advocacy groups, Social Influencers, SDG Advocates, and more. The media zone is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

According to the Founder and Executive Producer of the SDG MEDIA ZONE AFRICA, Mr. Chukwuebuka Anyaduba, the event is aimed at spurring actions and conversations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the aim of having a practical recommendation on how to promote awareness, proffer solutions for scaling and the need for multi-sectorial approach to implementing the SDGs in Africa.

Discussing the theme; ‘SDG Implementation in Africa; Impacts & Scaling Success,’ the event provided a dynamic space for strengthening the understanding and domestication of SDG in Africa, and also reinforces the need for an urgent commitment from the international community in support of the 2030 agenda in Africa.

The panelists present at the event were Former Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group Mr. Tonye Cole, COO, The Future Project, Bukonla Adebakin, Managing Director, Perception Media, Mr. Olisa Adibua, Founder, IDIA Project, Miss Idia Aisen, Founder, The Good Fathers Foundation, Nnaedu Umeohia, Social Research Enthusiast, Mr. Tokunbo Olorundanmi, Actress, Imoh Eboh and Founder Adansonia Foundation, Kayode Oluokun.

According to the keynote speaker, Mr. Tonye Cole, every government establishment should have a clear deliverable policy for SDG so that its implementation can be visible and that as a matter of fact, there should be a Ministry of SDG.

The forum provided a safe space for interaction as the participants engaged with the panelist to understand how to navigate the difficult terrain in the local area. Recommendations were made for ministry of SDG at Federal level, with similar moves made at State and local government levels.

The youth of Africa were encouraged set new priorities that will reflect good understanding of the SDG.
