Man remanded in prison for killing friend with pestle

A Lokoja Chief Magistrate court has remanded in prison an 18-year-old Disc Jockey, Ugbede Iyeh for allegedly killing his friend, Ikani Amodu, with a pestle.

According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Tuesday Ganagana, the accused had on August 20 gone to the deceased shop who was a barber to download some songs from his laptop.

Iyeh had then mistakenly deleted all the files on the computer, which led to an altercation between the two friends.

Ganagana said during the argument, the accused “criminally took a pestle and hit the deceased on the head.

“As a result, the barber fell down and became unconscious and was rushed to Peace Hospital, Anyigba, for treatment, but was confirmed dead on arrival.”

He told the court that the incident was reported by the deceased brother, and urged it to adjourn the case for the completion of investigations.

He also prayed the court not to grant the accused bail, stating that homicide is not a bailable crime.

The Chief Magistrate, Levi Animoku remanded the accused in prison.

“The accused shall be remanded at the Federal Prison, Dekina. The case is hereby transferred to the Chief Magistrate Court, Dekina,” he added.

The case has been adjourned till September 27, 2016, for mention.
