A former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, has been issued a quit notice by the landlord of his Abuja residence.
Okiro, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, is reported to have refused to vacate the house after his tenancy was terminated by the owners of the property- Kundi Nigeria Limited- hence, the notice of eviction.
Kundi Nigeria Limited stated that it entered into a two-year tenancy agreement with Okiro on July 25, 2013 at an annual rent of N8m for the property.
Punch Newspapers reports that the property is situated at A06-4 Esa Oke Hill Close, Off Katsina Ala Crescent, Maitama District, Abuja.
An initial three-month quit notice was reportedly served on him on April 30, 2015 while the seven days ‘notice of owner’s intention to recover vacant possession of the property’ was served on him on December 1, 2015.
In the plaintiff’s averment in a writ of summons marked, CV/M/01/1016 issued at the District Court of the Federal Capital Territory Wuse, Abuja- Mike Okiro was alleged to have ignored the notices issued to him.
Consequently, Kundi Nigeria Limited is seeking an order compelling Okiro to vacate the property and pay N666,666 from October 31, 2015 until when judgment is entered.
“Since the expiration of the tenancy, the defendant has remained in occupation and enjoyment of the property and thereby accumulated mesne profit,” it added.
Owing to Okiro’s alleged threat to remove the fittings he erected in the property when he’s vacating the property but Kindu Nigeria Limited also urged the court to restrain him from carrying out the act, as there was no agreement between them, that he would carry out renovations in the house.
