Mo’Cheddah is THE official diva! Exclusive pictures from her album launch

by Demola Adesina

From the time she caught the attention of the country over a year ago in the Knighthouse hit Won Beri, Mo’Cheddah has continued to emphasise her relevance on the psyche of Nigerian music lovers. She is indeed a breath of fresh air in a society very wanting of diva-powered musicians. As if to rub it in, her debut album, released as she celebrates her 20th birthday, is titled The Franchise Celebrity.

The launch of album held at De Marquee, Penthouse of Mega Plaza on Idowu Martins Street, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday 23rd October 2010.

The show which was billed to begin at 6pm started at 8pm and was hosted by Tosyn Bucknor and Andre Blaze. A good start was a remarkable performance by Knighthouse’s new phenomenal young act, Phenom and older hand Willybang. Then Mo’Cheddah herself performed Uncensored off the new album.

Other performances by Terry Da Rapman and Mo’cheddah came in quick succession punctuated by Tosyn’s wit. As Skuki performed ‘Peeshawn’, the crowd joined in singing the ‘banger’ hook of the club banger. The performance of the night, however, came from Iceprince and the new Chocolate City act, Brymo. Prior to starting the song, Iceprince informed the house that Brymo is a shy young man and Brymo did live up to that reputation covering his face like a schoolboy in focus. Er, with the duo performing the hit Oleku, everyone kept wondering why the event’s planners provided only one mic!

There was also a slight hitch as electricity tripped off as Dipp was performing his Pop Off Selecta.

But the show was still fun all through! Other Celebrity guests like Weird MC, Dr Sid, K-switch, Lynxx helped spice up the event. A whole bunch of University of Lagos students (where Mo’cheddah schools) were also present at the event.

The event was held in conjunction with FAB magazine and the afterparty held at Rehab. The 14 track album was the ticket into the event and features hit tracks, If you want me, Ko Ma Roll, In the morning with Naeto-C and Thank you, an appreciation piece featuring Dagrin.
