The killings in Plateau State does not appear to be abating with multiple reports of killings and maiming in several parts of the state.
One policeman and others were yesterday killed in Riyom LGA of the state. Assailants were reported to have laid ambush in some parts of Jwol village and opened fire on a group of policemen who were on routine patrol at Jwol.
During the attack, the unknown assailants, who were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons, overpowered the police killing a policeman identified as Istifanus Samaila. Other policemen were reported to have taken to their heels.
The gunmen, who appeared to be on rampage reportedly entered Sopp village and gunned down four people with one other villager escaping with injuries.
A police source further disclosed that the gunmen destroyed farm lands along their way, while entering the two villages they had attacked before they were eventually repelled by some of the natives who summoned courage to launch a counter attack.
Earlier yesterday, the villagers reported another body of a woman found around the market.
Daniel Dem, representing Riyom in the Plateau State Assembly confirmed the incident adding that three people were also killed early yesterday morning, including a security guard at a primary school at Hawan Kibo who was matcheted to death.
DSP Emmanuel Abuh, the state police public relation officer, confirmed the latest incident saying that the only person who sustained injuries was receiving treatment at Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
It is a tale of blood and violence on the plateau with no end in sight.
