by Anike Jacobs

Nigerian film director and producer Mildred Okwo has given an illustrative comparison between the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) and the Academy Movie Awards (Oscars).
The AMVCA is believed to be the African version of the Oscars, an annual American awards ceremony honoring cinematic achievements in the film industry.
The Academy Awards are widely considered to be the most prestigious cinema awards ceremony in the world. Comparing the two awards, Mildred called out the red carpet presenters and attendees of the AMVCA.
According to her, many of the socialites that attend the AMVCAs do not clap when winners are called up for their awards. She further claimed the Red Carpet presenters are fond of asking inappropriate questions.

Since the maiden edition in 2013, the AMVCAs have celebrated the contribution of African filmmakers, actors and technicians to the success of the continent’s film and television industry. The third edition is scheduled to hold on March 7, 2015.
