“My husband’s mistress threatened to disfigure me if I did not leave my husband alone” – wife tells divorce court, also begs to remain in the marriage

by Akan Ido

A woman, Nkechi Obi, this week, pleaded with an Oshodi Magistrate Court in Lagos not to dissolve her marriage despite allegations of infidelity against her husband.

Obi had in December 2011 gone to court to seek the dissolution of her marriage to Chukwudi Obi accusing him of infidelity and keeping late-nights.

She reportedly told the court that her husband was planning to abandon her and her four children for another woman adding that they (her husband and the mistress) have chosen December 10 this year as their wedding day.

She said she has received series of messages from her husband’s wife-to-be threatening her to leave Chukwudi alone or face the consequences.

According to her, “She threatened to deal with me and disfigure me if I did not leave my husband alone.”

Mr. Obi, her husband, did not deny the allegations, he merely said he cannot continue with the relationship because Nkechi is stubborn, disrespectful, and nags excessively.

He also accused Nkechi of denying him access to the children pleading the court to compel his estranged wife to grant him access to his children so he can cater for their education.

The court president A.I Olorunnimbe advised the petitioner to allow Chukwudi access to his children anytime and urged them to maintain the peace.

Olorunnimbe adjourned the case to September 28.
