The Director General, Dr. Paul Orhii stated this on Thursday, 18 September, during a one day sensitisation workshop of NAFDAC stakeholders in Abuja, where he revealed that the agency is pushing for a life sentence for counterfeiters of drugs.
Orhii disclosed that the existing NAFDAC law are being reviewed to give the fight against fake drugs a boost. He noted that the revised law is receiving attention at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and if signed into law and implemented will reduce counterfeiting of drugs.
Orhii was represented by the agency’s director of special duties, Dr Abubakar Jimoh, who said that the agency has through the years, built a partnership with other stakeholders in the fight against counterfeits.
He urged Nigerians to rise up to the occasion and be involved in the fight against counterfeit drugs, while adding that lliteracy, poverty and lack of awareness were the major challenges hampering the success of the fight against counterfeiting of drugs in Nigeria.
