Davido questioned by NAPTIP over alleged child abduction

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters questioned Davido, over the allegation of child abduction filed against him by ex-lover, Sophia Momodu.

Davido was reportedly present at the office of the agency in Ikeja GRA by 11am on Wednesday to state his own side of the story following a summon by the agency after Sophia had petitioned them saying the artiste had abducted their daughter, Imade to travel out of the country without her consent.

Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajiboye, his father, Deji Adeleke and Dele Momodu had also made appearances at the agency.

Kamal confirmed the 23-year-old’s presence saying: “They just asked him to state his side of the story. I know he was there today to sign his statement through his lawyer. I cannot say to what extent the matter is going or if it is going to court.”

Though the details of Davido’s meeting with the officials of the agency are yet to be ascertained, when asked about the outcome, Davido, who was recently hospitalised due to stress, declined to comment on the outcome of his visit, insisting that it was a family affair and a personal problem.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, via a statement issued yesterday urged the parties consider handling the matter privately for the sake of the child.

“We have observed with considerable trepidation and disappointment the media brickbats and unnecessary spat between the highly successful celebrity musical performer known by his stage name of Davido and the high profile publisher and respected columnist/political activist, Chief Dele Momodu, over a child’s custody disagreement involving the musician; his erstwhile female companion, Ms Sophie, who is reportedly the cousin to Dele Momodu over a child, little baby of seven months, called Imade.”
