For more than two decades, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and the people of Ogoni kingdom had agitated for the clean up of their land polluted by years of careless oil drilling and exploration.
Today, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to visit Ogoni to flag off the clean-up of the polluted environment.
In his first coming as a military ruler, Buhari had visited the Ogoni Kingdom to commission a fish farm which was later destroyed due to oil spills.
He returns their 32 years later as a democratic leader to flag off a historic event for which many Ogoni sons and daughters have died for.
Here is what Nigerians are saying about the visit:
Ken Saro Wiwa, one of your dream will be implemented today , the people of OgoniLand will forever remember you#NDCleanUp #OgoniCleanUp

@TouchPH #NDCleanup Flagoff ought not to be a Jamboree but a reflection and a declaration on the dignity of the #NDRegion

The oil spills that now require #NDCleanUp of the Niger Delta dates back to 1958 at Bomu.

Dear Ken Saro Wiwa,
Your struggles are not in vain, your death isn't a waste. It took so long but finally, PMB is committed to #NDCleanUP— Eniola Opeyemi (@eniola_opeyemi) June 2, 2016
Just drove past a billboard reminding us that the current Miss Nigeria is Ogoni. In fact she's from Bodo, where #NDCleanUp is being launched

Notice how certain buhari critiques aren't commending or commenting on the #NDCleanUp. All they want to do is talk about negatives

They don't need a ceremony to start the Ogoni clean up.
I already have a bad feeling that this is more about the optics
