There’s a lot happening in Nigeria today, and Twitter is buzzing. While men slept yesterday night, the Department of State Services (DSS) undertook sting operations that led to the arrest of superior court Justices of Nigeria.
See below the meltdown that followed on Twitter Nigeria…
First they came for the Shiites, we were silent. Then they came for their opponents, we were praising. Now they have come for the judges…
— Victor Asemota (@asemota) October 8, 2016
Except the Judges were building Nuclear Bombs in their homes, or training Boko Haram in their backyards, I don't understand the DSS.
— Nejeeb Bello Oyarese (@NejeebBello) October 8, 2016
No Presidential address, no public inquiry… Just middle of the night gestapo style arrest of senior judges.
This is not a president— Amara Nwankpa (@Nwankpa_A) October 8, 2016
Pres @MBuhari No merit of intention can excuse the violation of The Rule Of Law in a Democracy. #STOP. https://t.co/PopDbsa42B

WE-Citizens- DEMAND, Pres @MBuhari handles Corruption Charges against JUDGES within the BOUNDS OF THE RULE OF LAW. https://t.co/PopDbsa42B
— Oby Ezekwesili (@obyezeks) October 8, 2016
@naijama @MBuhari @MobilePunch Which rule of law has been violated ma? All reactions at this point seem to be based on speculation
— Dipo Bello (@Dipo_Bello) October 8, 2016
I've often canvassed that CORRUPTION in Judiciary be TACKLED to help ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR. But DO SO WITHIN BOUNDS OF DUE PROCESS, @MBuhari
— Oby Ezekwesili (@obyezeks) October 8, 2016
President @MBuhari if we DISREGARD The Rule of Law in tackling Corruption, then the Corrupt will SADLY WIN. WE MUST AVOID THEIR TRIUMPH!!
— Oby Ezekwesili (@obyezeks) October 8, 2016
How does this violate the rule of law please? Are judges above the law? They have been arrested, they will have their day in court. Simple. https://t.co/9uJqPHBe4U
— Obansa P. S (@Piusobansa) October 8, 2016
Can never argue against arrest of ACCUSED PERSONS even if they are JUDGES. KEY CONCERN, "IS MANNER OF ARREST, COMPLIANT WITH RULE OF LAW"? https://t.co/s4ugc1hS3l

It's like the DSS have never heard of the word "invitation" before, I hope somebody will warn them against these "invasion" of Judges homes
— Bashir Abdullahi (@bashlaw1) October 8, 2016
The DSS said in their statement that they invited the judges. Here's how that invitation looked like pic.twitter.com/egwD5Fh3ay

be wasting ur data defending thieves.hv u seen how much they hv in their houses.think of d last time u had 200k in ur house.
— OMO (@myyemi) October 8, 2016
When even Judges that should be upholding our laws are agents of massive bribery and corruption, what hope does the country now have
— #MerciArsène (@Horlatunde) October 8, 2016
After getting information on why the DSS has arrested some senior members of the judiciary, I must say this is something major happening.
— HENRY Okelue (@4eyedmonk) October 8, 2016
A sting operation which preceded the arrests must have unearthed some disturbing information about the Nigerian judicial system.
— HENRY Okelue (@4eyedmonk) October 8, 2016
Never did I think what recently happened in Ghana will come home to roost here. We all should be worried, because as I said, this is major.
— HENRY Okelue (@4eyedmonk) October 8, 2016
Seems I'm lagging behind on Twitter again, yesterday was N270m grassish, today is DSS arrest of judges.. Buhari is moving us towards anarchy
— Adenrele Orimidupa (@blastedup) October 8, 2016
Why is Nigerian own different to the extent that Governor Nyesom Wike had to leave his house by 1am to prevent the DSS from arresting
— Nwudu Augustine (@AugustineNwudu) October 8, 2016
We don't need to try the abducted judges in court. Since they are all guilty via DSS press release, they should just be lined up and shot. ?
— AYO SOGUNRO (@ayosogunro) October 8, 2016
Not one person has been arrested after hundreds of Shiites were brutally murdered yet we have enough forces to arrest judges in their homes!
— Reno Omokri (@renoomokri) October 8, 2016
FG can arrange to shoot the judges at a public event in Abuja. And sell tickets–to grow the economy. Buy Naija bullets to grow the Naira.
— AYO SOGUNRO (@ayosogunro) October 8, 2016
Every single area from judiciary, civil service to police is ridden with systemic corruption and we think commando-style is the solution??!!
— Juliet 'Kego (@julietkego) October 8, 2016
The Buhari administration is yet to complete ONE high profile corruption case. So much for a war on corruption.
— The Runner (@je_mc2) October 8, 2016
SSS has no justification for invading judges. That just makes the entire country look like a jungle where anything goes. Dumb move.
— JJ. Omojuwa (@Omojuwa) October 8, 2016
Can't one just stay away from the news without one drama or the other? Which one is this clampdown on judges? Is this military era or what?
— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) October 8, 2016
The way this admin is 'FIGHTING CORRUPTION' shows clearly we have no inkling how systemic our corruption is. Strong man tactics won't work!!
— Juliet 'Kego (@julietkego) October 8, 2016
I see some ppl are gloating that #Nigeria's DSS is breaking down doors of hapless judges. This shd not happen in a democracy. It's nefarious
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
First they came for bloggers; now they are after judges. Soon they will come for the media and the people; then the "prophecy" will be true
— Fredrick Nwabufo (@FredrickNwabufo) October 8, 2016
#Nigeria's SSS has arrested:
Sylvester Ngwuta, Supreme Crt
Niyi Ademola & Nnamdi Dimgba, Fed Hi Crt
Muazu Pindiga, Gombe Hi Crt /1— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
SSS agents arrested Hon. Justice Pindiga in Gombe. He is presently in a bus with SSS agents on their way to Abuja /2
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
In Abuja, alleged SSS agents beat down the doors of judges. At the residence of Hon. Justice Dimgba, they assaulted his brother. /3
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
The conduct of the SSS constitutes intimidation of the judiciary. SSS is operationally controlled by @NGRPresident. He is responsible /4
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
Judges are not above the law nor beneath it. If a judge is suspected of committing a crime, s/he is entitled to constitution due process /5
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
Beating down the doors to the residence of judges at night is not law enforcement. It is nefarious intimidation. /6
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
The role of SSS under the National Security Agencies Act is limited to crimes of "internal security". Does hounding judges at night fit? /7
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
When even judges cannot get minimal due process, everyone should realise that crystallizes the decentralisation of despotism. /9
— RightsAfrica (@chairmanNHRC) October 8, 2016
the DSS is several months late in its operation against the "corrupt judges".. hope they will arraign them before "honest judges"
— Nafiu T (@nafeezi) October 8, 2016
Imagine Judges been abducted under a GEJ Presidency. Soyinka's hair would have turned red & that"l be Sunday sermon for Tunde Bakare
— CAPTAIN (@PaulUtho) October 8, 2016
Things are definitely heating up.
