No country can tell Nigeria what to do about IPOB – FG

The Federal Government has said it does not need the permission of any country to declare the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a terrorist group.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this during an interview with Punch on Sunday.

What happened:

  • The Military had declared IPOB a terrorist organisation after a clash between IPOB members and soldiers.
  • A Federal High Court in Abuja had also proscribed the activities of the group and also declare it a terrorist group.
  • The United States had however said it does not consider IPOB a terrorist group.

What he said:

  • Nigeria has never questioned the decisions of any country.

He said, “Nigeria is a sovereign country and it does not require the permission of any other country to declare any person or organisation a terrorist just as those countries don’t need the permission of Nigeria to declare any organisation a terrorist one.”
