Nigerian novelist, Chinua Achebe has turned down a million dollar from multiple award winning American rapper, 50 Cent, for the right to use the title ‘Things Fall Apart’ in his new movie. According to a guardian.co.uk report, Achebe insisted that the rapper changed the title of his upcoming movie from ‘Things Fall Apart’ even in the face of $1 Million.
“The novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before was born). [It is] listed as the most-read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even £1bn,” Achebe’s lawyer told the British media house.
In March 2011, 50 Cent premiered his self-produced ‘Things Fall Apart’ –a story of an American football player diagnosed with cancer, at the Miami Film Festival. The movie has since been renamed to ‘All Things Fall Apart’.
Things Fall Apart was originally published in 1958 and has sold over 8 million copies.
