Fake Accountant-General defrauding Nigerians on Facebook – FG

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation has said Nigerians should be weary of unauthorized Facebook accounts created by unknown elements and impersonating Ahmed Idris, the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The warning was given in a statement by the Communication Officer Ifeanyi Okereke on behalf of the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations.

The statement confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) and some of the culprits have been apprehended.

The statement warned Nigerians not to fall for the scam, stating that the  Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris does not transact on any social media platform or facilitates loans for anyone.

“It is gratifying to note that the action has started yielding results, as one Izuagie Mohammed, one of the scammers has been arrested by security operatives in Benin City, Edo State.

Mohammed, using a bogus Facebook account where he poses as the Accountant-General of Nigeria, had already defrauded some unwary members of the public, by promising to help them facilitate access to the Central Bank Empowerment Loans, among other dubious claims,” the statement read.
